Comision Nacional Forestal (CONAFOR)
The National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR) is an agency within the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT). CONAFOR is responsible for designing and implementing national policies in the forest sector.
Its main objective is to develop, support and promote Mexico’s forest conservation and restoration, as well as to design plans, programmes and policies for sustainable forestry development.
CONAFOR is the focal point for REDD+ initiatives, including those under the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF). REDD is a project of the Global Canopy Programme (GCP).
CONAFOR was funded the 4th of April 2001 by presidential decree.
